[edit]Hi! It might not be your intention, but the website(s) you provided as a source for Whitney Houston's sales is/are unreliable. Also, we don't use Wiki-links as a source. Please take a look at WP:V, WP:RS, and WP:CITE. Thank you. Novice7 (talk) 16:32, 7 March 2011 (UTC)
List of best-selling music artists
[edit] Your recent edits have once again been reverted due to replacing highly reliable source(s) with unreliable ones. Two of the sources which you provided including this andthis are unreliable, one of them is only weakly reliable which still cannot be used, see this here. As for the fourth source here, I'm not at all sure why anyone would think that it could be used as a source. Please read through our policy for reliable sources and also make sure to discuss the reliability of your source(s) at the discussion page of List of best-selling music artists before you try to replace the sources again. Regards.--Harout72 (talk) 22:40, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
I have a few questions. I work and reasearch a lot, and giving my best to find sources for some of the singers, and every time there is a problem with my sources, because i saw some sources for a few artists that are old or exagerated used from some blogs etc. For example single i will always love you is sold in 1999 13 mill not 12 like someone put it, I found article from newspaper and posted itd deleted, and about Houston total sale? you can find somewhere that she sold more that 200 230 mill its not true she sold more that 180 mill ,not like someone wrote here 170, some artists sold less but still with some weird sources are ok. I need to suggest that sources for these sellings for ex. to be checked not just this for some music artists number of sales is higher than it really is.
- I understand your concern, and I can't speak for the sources a lot of the pages on Wikipedia use, but at List of best-selling music artists, all new source(s) replacing the current source(s) must be highly reliable one(s). If you go to the reference section of that page, you can see that all of the sources currently provided for all artists are coming from prestigious news services (such as CNN, Fox News, BBC etc.) or music industry related organizations (such as MTV etc.). Also, everytime an editor updates a sales figure using a figure that is much higher than what the previous (original) source claimed, we verify the newer claimed sales figure(s) using certifications coming from the databases of certifying agencies such as RIAA, BPI, Bundesverband Musikindustrie etc. to avoid inflated sales figures, before we accept that figure. But since you only want to update Houston's sales figure from 170 million to 180 million, simply providing a highly reliable source will do the job. I do encourage you; however, to discuss the reliability of any source(s) with which you'd like to replace the current source with. Regards.--Harout72 (talk) 02:10, 17 March 2011 (UTC)
Ok. I understand, can I send to you new and reliable sources? And one more question for legendary The Beatles and Queen for ex. Beatles sold between 1 billion and 600 million..there are 2 different sources that you find correct but difference is 400 millions..thats not difference of 5 millions. One more question.in Jet magazine in one article wrote how I will always love you sold 13 millions-1994. till now it is possible that it s even more. http://www.highbeam.com/doc/1G1-15969835.html Article from:Jet Article date:December 19, 1994 COPYRIGHT 2008 Johnson Publishing Co. - If you have source(s) for Houston's total and you're not sure if they are reliable or not, you could start a new discussion section at Talk:List of best-selling music artists and I will be happy to tell whether they can be used or not. As for the 13 million stated by the Jet (magazine), it is clear that the figure is for the album Bodyguard which includes the mega-hit "I Will Always Love You". Bodyguard had sold 13 million units in the USA by 1994 according to the certified sales of RIAA. The single "I Will Always Love You"; however, could not have sold more than 8 or 9 million worldwide even by now per its available certifications which are coming from all those music markets covering good 70% of all the global sales, see my uploaded detailed certified sales for Houston. The figures are converted from certifications.--Harout72 (talk) 00:41, 18 March 2011 (UTC)
Ok.thank you for your time. I hope that you have certifications like that for all artists and that they matched published informations at this amazing site.Even though I must say that I have doubts in certain informations on this topic incoherently with Mrs Houston. Thank You once more. I will not make you any more troubles and "contributing" anymore.
